10 Positive Podcasts To Listen To On Your Walk To Work

As much as I recommend the benefits of practising mindfulness on your journey to work - noticing the sights and changing seasons, playing 'spot the difference' - some days you just need something extra to lift your spirits.

I have picked the following 10 podcasts as a way to lift your mood, reflect, relax and learn during your commute. I haven't given a huge, in-depth overview, (that's what their landing pages are for, right?), but hopefully I've given enough of a taster for you to get the idea. There's something for every occasion, mood or inspiration, so tune in and enjoy. Oh, and there's actually 11 podcasts, because you deserve a bonus! You're welcome.

1- The Science of Happiness Podcast - PRX and Greater Good Science Center

I've brought out the big guns first and started with one that, as a positive psychologist, I am kind of invested in. Packed full of scientifically proven interventions and topics, this podcast will give you the facts about how to feel happier, get a good night's sleep and ask for help, among many others.

2. The School of Greatness - Lewis Howes

'Dream Bigger. Live Better. Make an Impact.' is the slogan for this podcast. Packed with inspirational stories and interviews, Lewis Howes shares his experience and knowledge about setting yourself up for success, overcoming obstacles and loss and the importance of finding purpose. I recommend Episode 1198 with Amy Cuddy on the science of self-esteem and Episode 1260 with Van Latham on how to stop seeking validation and start defining your life by what matters.

3. Positive Vibe Tribe - Jonathan Belle

The aim of this podcast is to help you start each morning with a daily dose of positivity. It comprises short and sweet quotes, affirmations, and positive vibes to help you start your day with a great mindset. Episodes are usually less than a minute long, but the insightful and thought-provoking messages are just enough to make you slow down and think about how you can apply them to your own life.

4. The Minimalists - Ryan Nicodemus and Joshua Fields Millburn

Although they haven't fully converted me to minimalism, I loved reading their books and definitely enjoy having less stuff now than I did. This podcast is a great way to be inspired to live a meaningful life with less and consider all aspects of excess, and what impact it can have on your life.

5. Best Friends with Nicole Byer and Sasheer Zamata

If you fancy a medicine free way to reduce the stress hormone cortisol and increase your endorphins, you can't go wrong with this. Both comedians, Nicole Byer and Sasheer Zamata chat about the weirdness of daily events, ponder on life's big questions, like, 'What even is glass?' and bring their wisdom, 'How the justice system really works'.

6. Positive Mindset for Entrepreneurs from The Mind Aware - Dana Wilde

Dana show is underpinned by a simple philosophy: Happiness is practical. When you feel good, you make better decisions and success is easier to achieve. Take a listen for practical advice about how to create a success mindset, as well as motivation, marketing ideas, and business tips to help your enterprise succeed.

7. Paul McKenna's Positivity Podcast

If you like reading biographies then you will love this podcast. With guests such as Eddie Izzard, Professor Green and Neil deGrasse Tyson, there is something for everyone and they all share their top tips about staying positive, productive and happy.

8. The Good Life Project -

Another guest interview podcast, The Good Life shares the wisdom of experts such as Brené Brown, Elizabeth Gilbert and Seth Godin, as well as celebrities and every day guests. Episodes are a bit long, at just over an hour, but there is so much to learn about how status, circumstance, gender etc affect our lives, as well as the big questions about meaning, purpose and love that the minutes just fly by. 100% recommend!

9. The Tim Ferriss Show

Dubbed the 'Oprah of audio' by The Observer, this show explores the tactics, tools and routines that world-class performers use to guarantee success. If you want to find out the morning routines, favourite books and positive habits people such as Hugh Jackman, Madeleine Albright, Margaret Atwood and Mark Zuckerberg, then this is the place to be!

10. The Habit Coach with Ashdin Doctor

This is a fantastic podcast if you are looking to build in some healthy habits and would benefit from regular encouragement and easy to practice tips. Episodes are usually less than 10 minutes (although there have been some 30+ minutes ones lately), and cover everything from sleep and stress to productivity and movement.

Bonus Podcast! (Because this one is amazing!)

11- A Slob Comes Clean - Dana K White

If you've dreamed of having a beautifully organised and clean home, but battle with your lack of time and energy, this podcast is for you. Through very funny and relatable stories, Dana shares her struggles, as well as cleaning, organising and decluttering strategies for 'real' people who live real lives (i.e. busy people who don't enjoy cleaning and organising). Episodes include things like 'Perfectionism vs What's-the-point-ism,' and, 'Decluttering for a Move,' so you are bound to find one that calls to you.
